Call 'made from' Ilias Ali's mobile

A Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal leader has claimed to have got a call from the missing BNP leader Ilias Ali's cell phone. Abdul Latif, Joint Convener of the BNP youth front in Ilias' constituency, told bdnews24.com that he got the call from the number of Ilias' cell phone at 4:48pm on Thursday.
Latif said he could not receive the call as it came when he was talking over his phone. The call was registered as a 'missed call' on Latif's phone. He called back to the number immediately only to find the phone switched off.  Ilias' cell phone number (01732293744) has been switched off since he went missing 22 days back. Latif claimed to have had the call from this very number of Ilias.

As the news spread, many started calling to the number. Bishwanath upazila Chhatra Dal joint convener Shamsuddin told bdnews24.com that he found the number active at around 5:25pm. None, however, picked up the call before switching it off, he added. Local BNP leaders and journalists of Bishwanath area used to contact Ilias through the number.

One of the BNP's organising secretaries, Ilias Ali and his driver Ansar Ali have been missing since wee hours of Apr 18. Police found his private car abandoned at Mohakhali. Police became certain about the vehicle belonging to Ilias Ali on finding Ansar Ali's cell phone inside the abandoned private car. Police have failed to trace the BNP leader despite conducting numerous drives in and outside the capital. Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion had confirmed that Ilias had used his cell phone last time from the city's Eskaton area before going missing.

BNP has been alleging that the government has kidnapped Ilias Ali. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia also claimed that Ilias was picked up by RAB personnel. On the other hand, the government has been refuting the allegation claiming that the law enforcing agencies are trying their best to trace the missing BNP leaders. Ilias' wife Tahmina Rushdir Luna met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on May 2. The prime minister assured her of finding out Ilias.

"It has already been a week since the prime minister has assured me of getting my husband back. But I don't see any progress. I am getting frustrated with each passing moment," Tahsina said at a press conference last Wednesday. Tahsina also told journalists that she believed that Ilias had gone missing for political reasons. "Whoever has kidnapped my husband, the government must know about their identity," Tahsina has said.

Besides politicians, diplomatic quarters have also been expressing concern over the Ilias' going missing.
