Mujaheed gets 6-hour parole form jail

Facing war crimes charges, detained Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed has been granted a parole of six hours to attend his brother's funeral.  The Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general's counsel Munshi Ahsan Kabir told bdnews24.com that Mujaheed would be able to attend his brother's last rites.  He is in the process of being released from jail," he said.

Mujaheed is currently being held in Narayanganj jail. "The parole will be effective for six hours from the time he leaves the prison," Kabir said.  Mujaheed's younger brother Ali Ashraf Mohammad Shoaib, 56, died on Friday afternoon. He was the Faridpur district correspondent of Dainik Shangram and the vice-president of the press club there.

The Jamaat leader's nephew Reshadul Hakim told bdnews24.com that his uncle would be taken to his residence in Uttara from Narayanganj Jail. He will participate in the Janaza at Azampur Mosque Ground in Uttara.

Narayanganj prison's jailer Dewan Toriqul Islam said, "The parole order has reached the deputy commissioner's office. We have taken preparation and our police force is ready. We will leave with him (Mujaheed) once the order reaches us."  Mujaheed was detained on June 29, 2010. He was shown arrested for crimes against humanity on Aug 2. In the 366 page-report on the Jamaat leader, the International Crimes Tribunal's probe body accused him of various crimes including killings, rapes and arsons.  Delawar Hossain Sayedee, against whom war crimes charges have been framed at the ICT, also was granted such temporary parole in October last year to attend his mother's funeral.
